Certification:
Training for WHMIS is required to be done regularly or anytime a new WHMIS-regulated product is introduced into the workplace. Training must include practical application of the theory such as preparing workplace labels and reading Safety Data Sheets (SDS's) particular to the employee's workplace hazards. There is no expiry date on WHMIS certifications in Canada, though all employees who work around or with hazardous materials and WHMIS regulated products are required to be trained regularly. Best practices is annual certification or more frequently for dangerous chemicals and those requiring more significant measures of protection. Employees with less dangerous exposure can be trained as deemed appropriate.
