Course Overview
The CCNA R&S certification validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks. CCNA certified professionals have the knowledge and skills to make connections to remote sites via a WAN, and mitigate basic security threats. CCNA R&S training covers (but is not limited to) the use of these topics: IOS, IPv6, IPv4, OSPF, Cisco Licensing, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interfaces, Frame Relay interfaces VLANs, Ethernet, VLSM, and basic traffic filtering

You must pass the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam ($295) or pass both the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 exam ($150) and the Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 2 exam ($150). Training is available but not required.
The requirements under the new system announced in March 2013 are essentially the same:
If you already hold the Cisco CCENT certification (which means you passed the exam for ICND1), pass the ICND2 exam ($150). Otherwise, pass the CCNA composite exam ($295), which covers both ICND1 and ICND2.
Continuing Requirements:
Certification is valid for three years. Generally, you can recertify by passing a specified exam or earning a higher-level certification, but check Cisco's website for the current details as they change from time to time.

Until now, you have 90 minutes to answer 50 questions in the real CCNA exam but if your native language is not English, Cisco allows you a 30-minute exam time extension. But there are a few requirements to get this extension, so the best way is asking your teacher or mentor before taking the exam.

CCNA certification is valid for three years. To recertify, pass the ICND2 exam, or pass the current CCNA exam, or pass a CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, security, voice), or pass the current CCDA exam, or pass any 642 XXX professional level or Cisco Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams), or pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam.
Yes, students will still be able to take and pass the first exam (INTRO or ICND1) and have a three-year window to pass the second exam (ICND2), before the first exam expires.
